Large Japanese carved ivory and hongmu wood figure depicting a standing fish merchant with escaping octopus catch. Finely crafted. Man and octopodes have black enamel beaded eyes. Signed to red plaque on base. Mid to late Showa period. Measures 13 3/4" height x 7 1/2" width (34.9cm x 19.1cm). Total weight of 1334 grams.
