中国当代艺术家李可染是二十世纪其中一位最重要的画家及艺术教育家。他曾接受西方油画与传统中国水墨画的训练,创作时糅合两种截然不同的绘画技巧,画出构图精细的佳作。李可染曾在研习国画之初时说:「用最大的功力打进去,用最大的勇气打出来」。这句广为人知的名言,代表了他潜心修习并改革传统中国画的决心。

李可染在1907年生于江苏省徐州,自幼便开始作画,师从当地艺术家钱食芝。他在16岁时入读上海美术专门学校,其后考入杭州国立艺术院研究生部,学习西方油画,师从院长林风眠和法国画家安德烈.克劳多(André Claudot)。他于1946年获邀到国立北平艺术专科学校任教,随后师从齐白石及黄宾虹,深受这两位备受尊崇的画家鼓励和支持。在1950年代,李可染多次到江南游历写生,创作出多幅山水佳作,包括广受称颂的《万山红遍》等,这些作品至今仍对中国山水画影响深远。他曾在《人民美术》艺术杂志的创刊号发表文章,题为〈谈中国画的改造〉,鼓励艺术家深入观察当代中国人的日常生活。虽然他在文化大革命期间受到猛烈抨击,但在1979年仍获委任为中国美术家协会副主席,1981年更出任中国画研究院首任院长。此后,他继续以创新的风格绘画,以阴影建构出独特的明暗对比,并融入山水画之中。

Bidding: In-person bidding is not available at this auction - this is an online-only Timed sale.

Viewing: Viewing by appointment only.

Please Note - whilst visiting us, our kitchen will remain closed to members of the public. It is recommended that customers bring their own refreshments where needed.

Payment: We accept all major debit cards (£500 limit if paying over the phone), credit cards (maximum £200), or cash in person. Invoices over £500 will need to be paid by Bank Transfer only. If you're bidding online then we are able to accept debit card payments via the-saleroom.com payment portal and a link will be emailed along with your invoice.

Storage: We politely request that all invoices are settled within 5 days of the auction. We are unable to store items for longer than this period. Any items outstanding after this period (where delivery, collection or postage has not been arranged) will be moved to offsite storage and charged at a rate of £5 per lot, per day. We are open for click and collect (see above) and our nationwide courier service is fully operational.
