An unascribed English provincial silver trefid spoon, maker’s mark ‘RB’ with a pellet below in a pointed shield, a cartwheel device, circa 1680, the bowl with ribbed rat-tail, the top of the back of the stem pricked ‘ME’ over ‘MG’ over ‘167…’, 17.5cm (7in) long, 30g (0.95 oz). Literature: Kent, Timothy ‘West Country Spoons’, p. 67 for a possible attribution to Richard Bampton of Salisbury

Condition report** In fair condition. Split to bowl next to handle join, and a nick to the top of the stem. Bowl misshapen, nick to top of the front and very worn at the lip. Marks fair.
