A superb pair of William and Mary silver lace-back trefid spoons by William Scarlett, London 1692, the bowls with scroll-work and fine bead rat-tail, the top of the back of the stems pricked (1) a crown over ‘MG’ over ‘1693’ and (2) a crown over ‘EG’ over ‘1693’, 20.6cm (8in) long, 144g (4.65 oz) Literature: Kent, Timothy ‘London Silver Spoonmakers 1500-1697’, 1981, p. 52-53 and Jackson, 3rd edition, p. 144. Provenance: Wm. Bruford & Son Ltd, 1943 (£75); Marsden-Smedley collection (Sotheby’s June 17th 1943, lot 59)

Condition report** In very fine condition, the die-struck decoration quite crisp and the marks very clear. Planishing quite evident on edges of the back of the bowls.
