A late George III turned oak circular bonbonniere, the cover centred with a silver plaque engraved ‘This Box was made from a piece of an original Futtock Timber of Le Sans Pareil taken by the British Fleet commanded by Earl Howe, June 1st: 1794’, 8.7cm diameter. Admiral of the Fleet Richard Howe, 1st Earl Howe KG (d. 1799) captured the French flagship Sans Pereil in 1794 and commissioned the ship into the Royal Navy. The ship became a prison hulk in 1802 and was finally broken up in 1842.
