A Chinese yellow ground Empress Dowager, Dayazhai famille rose jar and cover, the exterior painted with birds amidst en grisaille and pink enamelled floral motifs of grapes and peonies, iron red Dayazhai character mark (The Studio of the Great Odes), the interior with turquoise enamel, 12.7cm high and 11.8cm diameter, iron red four character mark Yongqing changcun (Eternal Prosperity and Enduring Spring), 19th century. Previously sold at the Ismail Merchant Collection sale at Christie’s South Kensington on 7th October 2009, lot 2, for a hammer price of £325. For a pair of similarly decorated Chinese Cixi Dayazhai wares, see the pair of jardinières recently sold at the Antiques and fine art sale at Reeman and Dansie on August 1st 2012 for he hammer price of £27,000.
