A Miyao style bronze group of a lacquer artist working on a Daruma doll, Daruma’s head hinged to reveal an inkwell within; the whole mounted on a wood stand with gold lacquer Karakusa, Meiji period, height of bronze 7.1cm, 11.5cm overall. Provenance: Frederick Johnson, there is a photo of this bronze on the mantelpiece in his house in Thornton Heath (c.1910)
