A mid 18th century Scottish silver two handled strainer, probably by John Main, Edinburgh (entered 1729), maker`s mark only, engraved with a crest and a motto `Honeste Vivo`, 16cm (6.25in) wide, 101g (3.25 oz). Provenance: The Estate of the late Professor Rupert Hall and Mrs Hall. See Jackson (3rd edition), p. 547 for the maker`s mark. The crest and motto of CRAIGG or CRAIGIE of Glendoick, Scotland.
