He married Elizabeth Smith Candlish (1840-1919) in 1863, daughter of Dr Robert Smith Candlish (1806-1873), a leading figure in the Free Church of Scotland (appointed Moderator in 1861) and Minister of St George's Church, Charlotte Square Edinburgh. The sitter was the vendor's great-grandfather.Condition Report:Excellent untouched original condition behind glass in heavy quality gilt frame - Ready to hang
