TOLKIEN, John Ronald Reuel (1892-1973). [The Lord of the Rings trilogy:] The Fellowship of the Ring. London: Allen & Unwin, 1954 -- The Two Towers. London: Allen & Unwin, 1954 -- The Return of the King. Allen & Unwin, 1955. 3 volumes, 8° (222 x 144mm). Folding map after Christopher Tolkien, printed in red and black, tipped in at the end of each volume. (A few light spots, stronger at beginning of vol.II and end of vol. I & II, fore-edges spotted throughout). Original red cloth (head and tail of spine of vol.I lightly rubbed, very light dark red stain on rear cover and spine and small part of front cover of vol.II, slight soiling along rear joints), pictorial dust jackets printed in red, black and gold (spines lightly browned, a few waterstains on spine of vol. III, light stain on front and rear cover of vol.II, corresponding with the stain of the binding, head and tail of spines chipped with slight loss, a few short clean tears on upper cover of vol.I, spotted.). Provenance: Foyle’s (booksellers label on pastedown in each book).
