TERENT’EV, Igor Gerasimovich (1892-1937). Pen and ink portrait of a seated woman, signed ‘IG Terent’ev’ lower left, pen and ink, with pencil inscription ‘Study for the Feniks Portrait drawn by Igor’ Terent’ev Tiflis 1919’, with a variant on the reverse, on grey paper (330 x 156 mm) in card mount. [Together with:] – Pencil portrait of a woman wearing a hat, head and shoulders, inscribed ‘March’ and signed centre right with initials, inscribed in pencil on the reverse ‘Drawn by I. Terent’ev Tiflis 1920’, on brown paper (232 142 mm) with printed text of the ‘Small Group’ (creased, torn with loss upper right, minor loss and frays lower left). Provenance: Nina Nikolaevna Vasil’eva (1889-1979, poet).
The second portrait is thought to represent Sofiia Georgievna Mel’nikova, the Tiflis Group poet.
