ROUSSEAU, Jean Jacques (1712-1778). Discours sur l’origine et les fondemens de l’inegalité parmi les hommes. Amsterdam: Marc Michel Rey, 1755. 8° (195 x 120mm). Engraved frontispiece by D. Sornique after Eisen, title in red and black with engraved vignette after S. Fokke, one engraved head-piece, errata at end. (Upper corner of a few leaves lightly waterstained, one or two light spots.) Contemporary marbled calf, spine decorated gilt in compartments, morocco lettering-piece. Provenance: with the arms of Armand Thomas Hue, marquis des Miromesnil on covers.

FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE with the author's middle name incorrectly spelt 'Jaques' on the title and similarly at the end of the dedication, the accent added by hand to conformé on p.11, the frontispiece signed and titled 'chez' (and not ches), the correct vignette on the title-page and dedication.
