Half title, wood-engraved frontispiece and 9 wood-engraved illustrations by the author, all but one full-page, one-page of advertisements at the end (frontispiece and title page very lightly browned, some very minor wrinkling to the title). Original green pictorial cloth designed by the author, map endpapers printed in red and black (without the dust-jacket, some very light staining and a small nick to spine), contained in a modern green morocco-backed box by Asprey & Co. Ltd. Provenance: From the Collection of John Marriott (1921-2007) and Count R. L. Sangorski (1940-2014). FIRST EDITION, first impression.1,500 copies were printed of this, the author's first novel and a children's classic.
