A large sideboard dish, LAO case number 8245, of circular form, the added outer border heavily embossed with stylistic flowers around a beaded ground engraved with the family arms of Robert Clive (of India), 60cm diameter. The vendor has attempted extensive and varied research into the origin and history of the dish, with the National Library of Wales, The Victoria & Albert Museum, The National Trust and The London Assay Office. A copy of Clive's Indian Inventory mentions 'A large silver Dish' but it has not been possible as yet to prove a connection.
