Chess Pieces, carved and pierced ivory in the "Vizagapatam" style, one of the sets dyed red, Anglo-Chinese, 19th C., a red rook with fault on the base, minor faults. Notes: a similar set belonged to the Heathcote Collection and was sold at Christie’s New York, in September of 1978. For "Vizagapatam style", see Chritie's auction THE ALLEN HOFRICHTER COLLECTION OF CHESS SETS, on the 20th of September 2000, lots 6 to 12 - vd. https://www.christies.com/en/auction/the-allen-hofrichter-collection-of-chess-sets-10005/ - visited 13.11.2023 at 23:29; and Bonham's auction CHESS SET'S, PLAYING CARDS AND GAMES, on the 1st of May 2012. a) This lot is subject to CITES export/import restrictions and is duly certified: nr 20PTLX01930C; b) Several countries prohibit the import of goods that incorporate materials from protected wild fauna and flora species, including, among others, ivory, coral and turtle; c) In Portugal, according to the forecast transposition into the Portuguese legislation of the more recent EU guidance document concerning ivory commerce, the issuing of reexport certifications for non EU countries is suspended; d) We therefore advise potential buyers to inform themselves in advance on the applicable legislation, in particular the customs regulations in force in the countries concerned., Dim. - (rei) 15,5 cm
