CARLOS REIS - 1863-1940, "Minhota", oil on canvas, restoration, signed and dated 1887, stamp of the Portuguese Society of Fine Arts in the top left corner. Notes: back with authentication dated 1970 by his son João Reis accompanied by the following inscription: Original de Carlos Reis pintado aos 24 anos na Escola de Belas Artes de Lisboa. Prova de Exame em 1887. Examination in 1887. He completed the course in 1889. He applied for a scholarship which he brilliantly obtained, so as a State pensioner he immediately went to Paris. He entered the Paris School of Fine Arts through a competition, being ranked 3rd among 400 competitors, out of 80 student places. This reason was addressed by him several times. While it is not a piece that represents him, it is valid as a document. The competition test for Paris presented by Silva Porto and which is in the Porto museum (Soares dos Reis) also did not represent him, far from it. Upon returning to Lisbon, both the teacher and the disciple revealed themselves to be the greatest painters of their time — companions of Columbano Malhoa and Marques de Oliveira.", Dim. - 80 x 60 cm
