A good and scarce example of the 1871 pattern helmet worn by an Officer of the 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales’s) Dragoon Guards. Fire gilt skull decorated with laurel leaves; to the front a helmet plate of silvered cut star overlaid with a fire gilt title strap inscribed “P.C.W. Dragoon Guards” encircling a silvered numeral “5” set on a gilt ground. A gilt fluted spike supports the white over red regimental pattern horsehair plume with its gilt rose boss. To each side, a rose head boss. The interior with soft leather lining, with crimson silk edging. Gilt remains bright, minor age wear Overall GC. Please Note the chin chain is absent.
