Scottish. Black Watch Officer s dirk belt plate circa 1881-1901.
A fine example. Seeded gilt rectangular plate with burnished edges mounted with silvered Star of the Order of the Thistle bearing gilt thistle wreath in which rests a crowned oval bearing the motto of the Order of the Thistle (Lacesset). To the centre, St. Andrew and Cross in silver below the wreath a Sphinx. the Crown flanked by silver scrolls inscribed The Royal Highlanders . The Sphinx flanked by silver scroll Black Watch . Fixed belt loop present, detachable belt loop now absent. GC
