Victorian 1st Lancashire (Liverpool) Engineer Volunteers Presentation Sword and Badges.

A rare example, the sword is the Royal Engineer pattern. The blade is etched with a crowned, reversed and interlaced, VR cypher and presentation panel: ÒPresented to Captain Henry Newman E Company 1st Lancashire Engineer Volunteers by seventy members of that Company. As a mark of their appreciation of his valuable services in raising E Company to its present efficiency and grateful testimony of his uniform kindness and generosity during the 4 years he has been in command Liverpool October 1st 1869Ó Also with an armorial crest and etched ÒE Company 1st Lancashire Engineers VolsÓ. The hilt with gilt metal honeysuckle guard, shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in leather field service scabbard. Blade dulled with a dark patina, etching clear ... together with his helmet plate, waist belt plate and waistbelt plate mount. (illustrated under badge section)
