Cecil Beaton (British, 1904-1980) Costume designs for 'Ascot Visitor' and 'Royal Visitor' for My Fair Lady, circa 1955 signed, titled and inscribed 'BEATON/'My Fair Lady'/Ascot/Royal/Visitor' (lower edge) watercolour and pen and ink 34.5 x 23.75cm (13 9/16 x 9 3/8in). Together with: a My Fair Lady Theatre Royal, Drury Lane programme, and souvenir book, each with Tonia Lee as Eliza Doolittle, 1958; a copy of Cecil Beaton's Fair Lady, C. Tinling & Co., Ltd., London, 1964; and a Beaton designed Christmas card, circa 1983 (5) Footnotes: Beaton's involvement with My Fair Lady, his most famous project, began in 1955 while working on the American stage version of George Bernard Shaw's 1913 stage play Pygmalion. Julia Andrews and Rex Harrison starred in the leading roles. He continued his engagement with the play when it was brought to the West End in 1958, before spending ten months in Hollywood for the film production starring Audrey Hepburn in 1963. When the film was released in 1964, Beaton won two Academy Awards, for Best Art Direction-Colour and Best Costume Design-Colour, cementing his name in the world of theatrical design. Buyers' Premium and Charges


For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.

A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
