Historical context Capturing history—one frame at a time. Alan Bean snapped this shot just beyond the Solar Wind Collector site, visible in the foreground. Meanwhile, Pete Conrad, at right, is busy composing a panoramic series—the 12 O'clock LM Panorama (as he was facing the LM ladder from a position west of the LM)—which would, in turn, capture Bean taking this very photograph. Behind the LM Intrepid, Surveyor Crater stretches into the distance. To provide scientists with a comprehensive view of their surroundings, Apollo moonwalkers deliberately took overlapping images, allowing geologists and researchers to later stitch them into detailed panoramas for analysis.
