A SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1873 TRAPDOOR RIFLE, 1880. Serial number 131261, .45-70 caliber, round barrel with adjustable rear sight and marked at the breech 'R' and with proof marks 'V/P' over eagle's head and 'P', loading door marked 'U.S./MODEL/1873'; flat lock plate marked with a spread wing eagle and 'U.S./SPRINGFIELD'; walnut stock with 'SWP/1880' cartouche on the left side, and 'P' within a circle cartouche below the trigger guard; steel furniture and bands, the butt plate marked 'US', no rammer. Barrel lg. 32 1/2 in., overall lg. 52 in. Condition: Barrel toned to brown, rear sight lacking internal spring on elevator; lock toned to mottled gray, hammer screw is broken; stock has scattered dings, dents and a gouge on the butt; missing rammer and rear sling swivel; bright bore with sharp rifling, action functions properly.
