AN AMERICAN RESTOCKED BRITISH PATTERN 1777 SHORT LAND SERVICE MUSKET, late 18th century. 41 1/2 in. round barrel with Tower ordnance proof marks at the breech and trace of a regimental mark on the top; convex lock plate with pointed tail stamped 'TOWER' and with stamped crown over 'GR' below the pan and crowned broad arrow mark; maple stock; brass furniture including a butt plate with a pointed tang, thumb piece engraved '5/19', trigger guard with acorn finial, flat side plate, three rammer pipes and a nose cap; steel rammer with button head. Overall lg. 57 1/2 in. Condition: The musket is coated in a thin layer of varnish, the forward 14 5/8 in. of the barrel has been restored using a smaller caliber barrel section, lock has been reconverted and does not engage in the half or full-cock positions, stock is spliced at the center rammer pipe and has wood restoration at the entry pipe and wood loss at the front of the trigger guard, and wood fill around several pins.
