A FLINTLOCK AMERICAN LONG RIFLE, early 19th century. 44 3/8 in., .60 caliber octagon rifled barrel with brass blade front sight and rear notch sight; flat lock plate with stepped and pointed tail; figured maple stock with relief carving around the lock mortice and side plate panel, subtle scrolling relief carving around the breech plug tang and on the left side of the butt and incised scroll carving at the entry pipe; brass furniture including butt plate, scroll-engraved patch box, faceted side plate, trigger guard, three faceted sheet brass rammer pipes and a nose cap, wood rammer. Overall lg. 60 3/8 in. Condition: The rifle is coated in a thin layer of varnish, barrel has scattered areas of surface oxidation; lock has light pitting and refaced steel; stock has losses along the barrel channel and old surface; brass toned to yellow, action functions properly.
