A COMPOSITE ENGLISH OR DUTCH MATCHLOCK MUSKET WITH FINELY INLAID STOCK, last quarter of the 16th century. 41 1/4 in., .69 caliber tapering octagonal barrel with iron bead front sight and notch rear sight; slightly convex lock plate with serpentine match arm and pivot pan cover, the inside with stamped armorer's mark; full walnut stock extensively inlaid with staghorn tendrils ending in engraved mother-of-pearl and staghorn ball flowers, staghorn birds and pellets, decorated in front of the trigger with a vase and foliate scrolls, the butt with engraved staghorn butt plate, wood rammer. Overall lg. 54 3/4 in. Condition: Sliver loss along the barrel channel, areas of inlay restoration, wear to the butt, wood loss at the nuzzle, action functions properly lacking rear side nail, portion of a later rammer.
