Brian Bourke H.R.H.A. (Irish, born 1936) Tony O'Malley signed with initials 'BB' (towards the base) bronze and oil paint 40.5 cm. (16 in.) high Footnotes: Provenance Hillsboro Fine Art, Dublin, where acquired by the present owner. Private Collection, Ireland. Brian Bourke was born in Dublin in 1936 and on completing his studies at the National College of Art & Design he moved to London to further his studies at St. Martin's School of Art. He has represented Ireland at the Paris Biennale in 1965 and was awarded a first prize in the Irish Exhibition of Living Art competition in 1967 and in 1993 he received the O'Malley Award from the Irish-American Cultural Institute. His work in both landscape and portrait painting and his portrait sculptures are notable for their expressive and imaginative elements, at times playful or whimsical but never bordering on caricature as illustrated by his charismatic portrait sculpture of his friend and fellow artist Tony O'Malley.
