Description
British Pattern 1796 Heavy Dragoon Carbine for the 3rd Dragoon Guards, c. 1800. 26 in., .76 caliber barrel with Tower ordnance proof marks at the breech; convex lock plate with double line border engraving and pointed tail marked 'TOWER' and crown over 'GR' and crowned broad arrow below the pan, the inside of the plate marked 'crown over '2'; walnut stock; brass furniture including trigger guard with flat finial, butt plate with long blunt tang marked '3 D G' and 'D/27,' 'S' side plate, nose cap, and long rammer pipe; steel rammer with flaring head and button end. Overall lg. 40 3/4 in. Condition: Barrel toned to mottled brown with fine underlying pitting; lock toned to gray; stock has a glued crack inside the lock mortice and associated refitting of inner surfaces; brass toned to dark yellow/brown; lock functions properly.
