1989 Moto Morini 350cc Dart Registration no. G802 TBD Frame no. K4*03347* Engine no. K4 Following Moto Morini's takeover by Cagiva in 1987, a new model emerged combining products of the two Italian companies: the Dart. Unveiled at the Milan Show in November 1987, the newcomer featured the latest development of Moto Morini's much admired 350cc v-twin engine in a modified 125cc Cagiva Freccia (Arrow) chassis. The Dart also retained the Freccia's streamlined all-enveloping bodywork, the latter restyled by Massimo Tamburini (the 'ta' of Bimota). Unfortunately, the Dart's futuristic looks and excellent road manners were not matched by its performance, and the fact that it cost more than machines such as Honda's considerably faster CBR600 didn't exactly encourage sales either. Nevertheless, the 168kg (wet) Dart could just about exceed the magic 'ton' and even under 'road test' conditions managed to return 58mpg. Bike magazine tested a Dart in its March 1989 edition and hit 81mph over a standing quarter-mile, finding the steering 'effortless' and the six-speed gearbox a pleasure to use. Production lasted until late in 1989, although a mainly-for-Japan 400cc version was built until 1991. This Dart was purchased from Moto Morini specialists North Leicester Motorcycles in 2009 (receipt on file). SORN'd for the last three years and only sold due to the owner's old age, the machine displayed a total of 30,371 kilometres (approximately 18,870 miles) at time of cataloguing and would benefit from detailing. Four keys are present. Buyers Premium and Charges
Like the vast majority of auctioneers, Bonhams charge a Buyer's Premium on the Hammer Price of each Lot purchased and this is subject to VAT. Some lots may also be subject to VAT on the Hammer Price and these lots will be clearly marked with a symbol (†, Ω, *) printed beside the lot number.
For Motorcycles (Lots 1-63) the Buyer's Premium will be 15% on the first £500,000 of the Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on the balance thereafter.
For Memorabilia/Automobilia and Spares (Lots 101-221) the Buyer's Premium is 28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price; 27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,001 up to and including £800,000; 21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,001 up to and including £4,500,000 and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,001.
VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated.
