Rebound in full blue morocco gilt by Putnam's with anchors at corners, a.e.g. With program from publication party bound in at front, some toning and wear. WITH: The Making of a Magazine. New York: The New Yorker, July-December, 1925. 20 parts bound in full blue morocco volume, with author's bookplate. Provenance: author's copy, with Corey Ford bookplate and many inscriptions to him from fellow writers. In 1929 silent film star Joan Lowell wrote Cradle of the Deep, a memoir about a sea adventure that was later proven to be untrue. New Yorker humorist Corey Ford quickly penned this satire of Lowell's book, Salt Water Taffy, the story of June Triplett 'as told to' Corey Ford (June dedicates the book to Ford saying he 'encouraged me by writing this autobiography for me'). This is Ford's own copy of the book, inscribed to him by many of his fellow New Yorker staffers, some of whom have posed for the satirical pictures throughout the book, including GEORGE PUTNAM, WILLIAM MCFEE, FELIX REISENBERG, HEYWOOD BRAUN, FRANK SULLIVAN, DON MARQUIS, WALTER TRUMBULL, CHARLES MURPHY, GEORGE CHAPPELL, FRANK CROWNINSHIELD, MERRIT HULBURD, and New Yorker editor HAROLD ROSS.
