This resulted in the first GMT-Master reference 6542 which became an icon amongst the pilot community. Rolex GMT-Master Ref.1675 then follow in 1959, with the replacement of the Bakelite bezels used in the original with for aluminum, and the first implementation of crown guards as well as the smaller triangular tip on the second hour hand. The current lot is Mark 1 or 'Long E' and belongs to the era of matte dial references that are very familiar to collectors and is one of the more sought-after examples of the era.
