A RINPA STYLE INLAID LACQUER SUZURIBAKO (WRITING BOX) Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th century Rectangular, with a domed kabusebuta (overhanging) lid decorated in gold and black lacquer with inlays of shell and pewter with Ariwara no Narihira on horseback, the interior with a continuous design of pine trees, fitted with a rectangular inkstone, the water dropper now lost 9 3/8 x 8 1/2 x 2 3/4in (23.8 x 21.6 x 6.9cm) Footnotes: Published Stephen Little and Edmund J.
