A PEWTER-ENCASED YIXING TEAPOT Seal of Shi Baofeng, Jiaqing/Daoguang Of qin-form, incised on one side with a bird on a pine branch, the reverse with a poetic inscription, with jade mounts to the spout and handle and a disc-shaped jade finial surmounting the cover, fitted wood stand. 13cm (5 1/8in) high (3). Footnotes: 清嘉慶/道光 宜興胎包錫鑲玉茶壺 「差强烹雪水,且免典金釵。下酒鹽豉,無妨詭短齋。伯京」《史寳豐造》款 Pewter encased teapots were an innovation of the Jiaqing and Daoguang periods and said to have been invented by Shi Baofeng. A painter and calligrapher he is known to have written the important work A History of Teapots《壶史》 which is now sadly lost. The poem is a quotation of the poem Heng Jin Baijiu《横金白(烧)酒》by You Dong (1618-1704).
