PAIRE DE BOÎTES D'ENCENS EN FORME DE CANARDS EN LAQUE DORÉE Japon, période Meiji (1868-1912) ou Taisho (1912-1926) A PAIR OF GOLD-LACQUERED KOGO (INCENSE BOXES) AND COVERS IN THE SHAPE OF OISHIDORI (MANDARIN DUCKS) BY THE ZOHIKO COMPANY OF KYOTO Japan, Meiji or Taisho era Each modelled in a swimming attitude, constructed in two detachable sections, the plumage of both the female and male finely rendered and lacquered in gold and iro-e hiramakie, the interior of both birds of rich nashiji; each signed on the base with the gold-lacquer oval seal of Zohiko. 19.5cm (7 5/8in) and 16.5cm (6 1/2in) long.
