A late Victorian mahogany, satinwood banded, stained sycamore and fruitwood marquetry Carlton House desk by Maple & Co. 1880-1895 Inlaid with three ovals within pearled surrounds and inset with three different ribbon tied trophies comprising a fine and applied arts trophy, a musical trophy and a Cupid's love trophy, inlaid with scrolled acanthus, palmettes, bellflowers, fan paterae, rosettes, bouquets of flowers and a Neoclassical urn, the brass galleried superstructure comprised of eight mahogany lined drawers, two concave doors, two hinged concave front panels each enlosing one shelf and a gilt tooled leather inset slide, above one long and four short mahogany lined drawers, with a central arched kneehole and flute inlaid angles, on square tapering legs terminating in brass cappings and castors, stamped: 'MAPLE & Co.
