LA LOUBERE (SIMON DE) Du Royaume de Siam, 2 vol., second edition, woodcut device on titles, one engraved vignette, 40 engraved plates and maps (some folding), light toning to the fore-edges of titles, contemporary calf, neatly rebacked in calf with red and green morocco spine labels [Cordier Bibliotheca Indosinica 722; cf. Mendelssohn I, p.865], 8vo, Amsterdam, Abraham Wolfgang, 1691 Footnotes: La Loubere travelled to Siam [Thailand] as envoy extraordinaire of Louis XIV, alongside the Jesuit Guy Tachard, in 1687 to 1688. Includes a short account of the Cape of Good Hope, with 3 plates related to the region. Provenance: Martha Pitt, early ownership inscription on front free endpaper of volume 1; ?A.T.
