WILD (FRANK) Shackleton's Last Voyage, the story of the 'Quest', FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR 'To Mrs. Smuts with very kind regards & happy recollections from Frank Wild 1st August 1923', colour frontispiece, 100 plates (mostly photographic) and numerous maps, light toning, ink stamp on half-title, publisher's blue pictorial cloth gilt, pictorial endpapers (a little damp-stained), 2cm. tear to head of spine, shelfwear and light soiling, corners bumped [Taurus 112], large 8vo, Cassell and Company, 1923 Footnotes: Provenance: Isie Smuts (née Krige, 1870-1954), wife of Jan Smuts (1870-1950), Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa from 1919-1924 and 1939-1948, inscription to her from the author in ink; Louis Weyers (grandson of Isie and Jan Smuts), ink inscription dated 1963 on front free endpaper; A.F. Weyers, ink stamp on half-title page; Angie Butler, author of The Quest for Frank Wild and discoverer of Wild's ashes, which she arranged to be returned to South Georgia for burial alongside Shackleton's grave, belatedly fulfilling Wild's dying wish.
