HURLEY (FRANK) 'Return of the Night Watchman' [Alfred Hodgeman pushing his way through the snow into the Hut after a visit to the meteorological screen], vintage gelatin silver print, on the original thick card mount, original Fine Art Society Exhibition label, with pencil title and exhibition number '62' on verso, corners slightly bumped with very minor loss, 458 x 330mm., [Between 1911-14] Footnotes: Alfred Hodgeman (1885-1964), born in Adelaide, was 'a member of the Main Base Party (Adelie Land)... [participating] in several sledging journeys, and throughout two years in the Antarctic acted in the capacity of Cartographer and Sketch Artist, as well as that of Assistant Meteorologist' (Cool Antarctica, website). Taken by Hurley during Douglas Mawson's Australasian and Antarctic Expedition (1911-14). This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
