RHODES (CECIL J.) - FROM HIS LIBRARY GRAMMONT (ANTOINE) Memoirs of Count Grammont... a New Translation, with Notes and Illustrations, CECIL RHODES' COPY, engraved title with vignette, 78 engraved portraits, contemporary red straight-grained morocco gilt, g.e., rubbed at extremities, 4to (270 x 200mm.), S. and E. Harding, [1793] Footnotes: Provenance: Cecil J. Rhodes (1853-1902), his bookplate, and gift inscription to him 'Cecil Rhodes from Annaly Xmas 1894'; Luke White, 3d Baron Annaly (1857–1922), who gifted book to Rhodes, and to whom it was sent back after his death as testified by note beneath original inscription; 'Holdenby House, [Northamptonshire]' blind-stamp of Annaly's family home. Annaly's brother Henry F. White had been Mayor of Bulawayo, and an officer during the Jameson Raid which led to Rhodes' political downfall.
