LONGFELLOW, HENRY WADSWORTH. 1807-1882. Tales of a Wayside Inn, with Longfellow ALS. Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1863. First edition, 8vo, publisher's green cloth, title and author gilt to spine, engraved additional title page, top edge gilt, publisher's advertisements dated November 1863 at rear, ALS by Longfellow laid in. In custom case. Letter on three sides of one sheet, 7 x 9 in. folded in half, dated Nahant, August 27, 1873, replying to a reader's query as to whether any of his poems refer to Marblehead, Massachusetts. Covers rubbed, engraved plate foxed, binding cracked and separating in two places. Blank following ffep is separated completely and has previous owner's inscription dated 1863. Previous owner's leather bookplate on pastedown. Letter has three pieces of tape residue on rear.
