George Charle, London. A silver pair cased pocket watch for the Turkish market, the silver champleve dial having black Turkish numerals, blued steel 'beetle and poker' hands (one replaced) and signed 'George Charle, London', the chain fusee movement having Egyptian pillars, a verge escapement with a plain three arm steel balance, a pierced and engraved backcock, a silvered regulation dial and signed 'George Charle, London, 67543', having plain silver inner and outer cases hallmarked for silver, London 1791, diameter 58mm. * George Charle is recorded as working from before 1794 at 19, Wilderness Row, London, and is known as a maker of watches for the Turkish market. A watch by this maker is illustrated in Antique Watches by Camerer Cuss, plate 87.
