BRITISH COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, Great Britain, William and Mary and William III, The Battle of La Hogue, Silver Medal, 1692, by Georg Hautsch, bust of William III between two genii supporting the shields of England and Holland, within a circular temple housing statues of Russel, Ashby, Delaval and Allemonde, rev Fame and Victory supporting tablet which History inscribes under the direction of Time, lettered edge with legend that that translates as “in memory of HENDRICK DE WILDE sailor in the service of the noble East Indian Company, died 2 Sept 1712 in his 42nd year”, 45mm (MI 67/272; vL IV, 98; MH 108). Lightly toned, good very fine and rare. Admiral Edward Russell (1653-1727), 1st Earl of Orford, Commander-in-Chief; Sir John Ashby (c. 1640 – July 12, 1693), Commander of the Blue Squadron; Sir Ralph Delaval, Commander of the Red Squadron (which burnt the Le Soleil Royal); and Admiral van Allemonde Commander-in-Chief of the Dutch fleet.
