Hildegarde von Bingden (German, 1098-1179)
Known today as Saint Hildegarde, she was born Hildegarde von Bingden, the 10th child to a weathly family in West Franconia, Germany. As a member of the Benedictine faith, Saint Hildegarde went on to establish her own convent in Rupertsberg. The strength of her teachings and faith became respected in many circles during her lifetime. She was a known sufferer of debilitating migraines which often gave her intense visions. Saint Hildegarde embraced her visions as inspiration for her poetry, divine musical compositions, and writings on history and science.
