Margaret Bourke-White (American, 1904-1971)
A Bronx native, Bourke-White left an unhappy marriage in 1926 to become a student at Cornell University. There, she developed her passion for photojournalism. She demonstrated a mastery of the medium as well as a daring and cunning natural intuition. She gained her first recognition as an industrial photographer in Ohio, before being discovered by Henry Luce. Luce brought Bourke-White back to New York to work forFortune and Life magazines. Her photography career took her many places and into the thick of war worn areas, including the Soviet Industry after the revolution, the Balkan states just before Hitler’s arrival, and elsewhere. Her photographs are in many important collections including: the Brooklyn Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Condition
Book in very clean, very good condition with very faint age toning to the front free flypaper. There is scuffing and shelf wear to the dust jacket, with minor chips at edges and 2 cm tear at the head of the spine along the front hinge of the dust jacket and a 3.4 cm tear at the base of the lower right corner of the dust jacket.
