Stieg Larsson (Swedish, 1954-2004)
Larsson is best known for his “Millennium” trilogy, including “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” During his life, Larsson was a journalist with an open anti-fascist agenda. Until the age of nine, he was raised by his grandparents north of Stockholm. His grandfather’s experiences being imprisoned for speaking out against the Nazis in WWII left a lasting influence on Larsson’s personal views. After developing an avid appetite for detective fiction, Larsson began writing his own stories by the age of 12. Though Larsson went on to have a career as a noteworthy political activist and journalist, he continued to write fiction. During the 1990s, he began to drafting the crime trilogy now known as the “Millennium” series. Unfortunately, Larsson did not live to enjoy the success of his novels. He died suddenly at the age of 50 in 2004 before any of his books were published.
