1-5/8" x 13" Large fine porcelain footed dish with wide tapered border, minutely hand painted scene from famous "A Dream in Red Mension" (Hong Lou Meng) novel by Cao Xue Qin (ca. late Qing Dynasty), depicting a private encounter of a son of a noble family with with his lady. Hand inscribed in running script: Gui Zhong Jing Du ("Best friend in the quiet reading"), after an artist from Zhushan Ba You (one of The Eight Friends of Zhushan ('Pearl hill'), and sealed on the inside.
