Description
10-3/8" x 12" x 4-7/8" "Pferd Mit Jungs." Cast bronze equestrian grouping, depicting two boys trying to climb on a stallion tied to a wooden fence. The horse curiously watches their attempts. Warm brown patina with gilt highlights; on oval bronze base with natural ground and one boy's draped hat. Signed "Waagen", cast on the front right; wood panel with old paper backing attached underneath.
Provenance: old prominent private collection, Pittsburgh, PA; gifted to current owner's mother in mid. 1970's from Elizabeth Braun Ernst (her father Arthur E. Braun was president of the Farmers Deposit National Bank in 1919 and publisher of the Pittsburgh Post and the Pittsburgh Sun, and became a chairman of the advisory committee of the Mellon Bank in 1950; Warwick Terrace Estate, Morewood Heights, Pittsburgh; contemporaries of Andrew Carnegie).
