2-1/2" x 1-5/8" x 1/4" Finely carved in relief and well polished ornament depicting a horse mounted by a man with an attendant greeting two ladies riding in a cart with attendant. Building under pine tree in the background; carved inscription written in caoshu (cursive script) on the reverse - words from a poem by a famous poet of Tang Dynasty Li Bai: "The moon shines, the sun shines, the sky is dark, the sky is blue"; the inscription followed by the caoshu signature Zigang (for Lu Zigang, a celebrated jade carver of the late Ming period, whose name was often later misused); stylized dragons carved atop the ornament on both sides with aperture for silk cord at the top.
