UNDERWOOD & UNDERWOOD (publishers). A Trip Around the World [through The Perfecscope]Elmer UNDERWOOD
Elmer UNDERWOOD & Bert UNDERWOOD (publishers).
A Trip Around the World [through The Perfecscope]. Representing Life, Customs and Scenes of Different Countries, arranged in the form of a Tour, in which You, Your Family and Your Friends Can Join.. New York: Unerwood & Underwood, 1895. 12o (6 3/4 x 5 1/8in; 172 x 130mm). Pp. [1-17] + 3pp. blank. Original bark-grained thick light brown paper wrappers, upper cover printed in gilt.
Condition: pp.12 and 13 with slight surface damage, some old light creasing and folding.
First edition and surprisingly rare: the booklet is in the form of a quite basic narrative, kniting the views on the stereocards into a single narrative. The adventure starts "We are to suppose that our party, fully equipped for such an extended tour, have arrived in New York ... From the roof of the Post Office building we get a view of 1. Broadway .... A short walk from Broadway brings us to the stupendous 2. Brooklyn Bridge...[etc.]". Underwood & Underwood were to go from strength to strength from about 1895 to the start of the First World War, but this booklet seems to have been the first edition of a work that went through a number of different editions, titles and contents.
