[THE RAILROAD CAMERA CLUB run by The RAILROAD MAGAZINE] - [Various Photographers] A large collection
[THE RAILROAD CAMERA CLUB set up through The RAILROAD MAGAZINE]. -Â J. VOGLER of Houston, Texas. (probable compilor).
A large collection of photographs and RPPCs of Railroad Locomotives. [USA: circa 1934 - 1955, but most from 1936 - 1942]. Approximately 320 photos and RPPCs (2 x 4 in;51 x 102mm and larger), most vintage images printed from negatives taken at the time by various photographers including Hugo LACKMAN; James 'Jim' WADE, Jr. of Birmimhgam, Alabama; David MARTINDELL of Oklahoma city, Oklahoma; S.R. Wood of Stillwater, Oklahoma; W.H.B. JONES; TARRANT Photo Service, Tarrant, Ala.; Wiliam E. BUTLER; H.I. HUMPHREY of of Johnon city, NY; W.A. RANKE of Chicago. ILL; CH. KIEFNER; Tex. K. HERRING of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mack TOMME of Urbana, Texas; Callahan; George PRESTON; Wesley KRAMBECK; D.L. JOSLYN; Robert M. HANFT of Brainerd, Minn.; James F. BYRNE.
The majority tipped onto thin paper leaves, with explanatory text (including: engine name, type and date of manufacture, railroad, photographer and date and location of the photograph), either on the verso of the image or adjacent to the image on the mount. Most within a later ring binder.
The connecting thread for these photos seems to be that the vast majority were collected by Vogler through his membership of the Railroad Camera Club. This forum, via the pages of The Railroad Magazine, allowed interested parties to swap, and offer for sale (?), images of locomotives, etc. that they had encountered. A number of the present images have no photographer allocated: these may be Vogler's own work?
The locomotives depicted, in the main, are from railroad lines in the southern and western half of the USA (for example: the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Lines; or the Missouri-Pacific Lines). Â
