[Located between Milan and Brescia in the Alpine region of Lombardy in Northern Italy, Bergamo was the walled capital of an ancient diocese dating back nearly 2000 years. The upper town, still walled, was proclaimed a Unesco world heritage site in 2017]
- The lot comprises a 32 pp prospectus, the main volumes (Vols I-VI) and an index volume, all in a custom-made wooden box
To celebrate its 90th anniversary in 1959, the Banco Populare di Bergamo commissioned a lavish illustrated edition of Belotti's magnum opus (which was originally published in three volumes in 1940), with the price of the 1959 edition 75,000 Lire
- Quarter-bound in heavy green calf with green cloth-board sides, gilt lettered to the upper panels and spines, green-printed topographical design to the endpapers, approximately 3000 pp of text on heavy art-paper and profusely illustrated in colour and monochrome, with many foldouts and colour plates with tissue-guards
The set is complete, unmarked and undiscoloured; the contents are fine; some binding damage reduces the overall condition to very good - the spines are rubbed, especially at the head, and there is a 40 mm repaired spine tear at the top of the index volume
